GOULD RESERVE

Public BBQ

Gould Reserve occupies a quiet stretch along the Swan River in Ascot, where traffic noise fades and mature trees provide generous shade across grassy areas. The walking path crosses Garret Road Bridge to connect with a dog park opposite, making it popular with locals exercising their dogs or launching canoes. Picnic tables and a free barbecue attract families and solo visitors, while the riverside draws anglers regularly. Waterbased birdlife, including occasional osprey pairs, adds interest for nature observers. A drink fountain serves path users, though the absence of public toilets remains the reserve's most notable shortcoming. The footpath runs between Ascot Racecourse and the river, offering pleasant views but suffering from uneven sections. Cyclists occasionally disregard path-sharing etiquette. At one end sits a hotel, at the other, horses graze. Someone has installed a tree swing for the adventurous. The reserve functions best as a tranquil spot for reflection, a riverside picnic, or quiet fishing.
